29th edition : from February the 13th to the 26th 2019
The 2019 Ciné Junior Festival takes place in Île-de-France’s Val-de-Marne between the 13th and 26th of February. It is the biggest festival for young audience in France:
57 public cinemas, cultural centres, multimedia libraries and museums come together to take part and create the programme
Around 40 000 spectators every year
Over 450 screenings
Founded in 1991, the Ciné Junior Festival enables children and teenagers to discover quality films from France and abroad (unreleased films or older works that cinemas don’t easily have access to anymore) and concretely help the showing of movies that could create an artistic awakening amongst young audiences.
The festival is organised by Cinéma Public and is supported by the departmental council of Val-de-Marne, the Île-de-France region and the DRAC.
International feature films competition
The official selection consists of 6 feature films unreleased in France. They are competing for the Ciné Junior Grand Prix (8000 € distribution grant, 2300 € grant form TitraFilm and an original trophy created by Pierre-Luc Granjon), the CICAE prize, the secondary-school pupils prize and the Grain à Démoudre prize.
International short films competition
This compendium of recent films is divided in 3 distinct age group-based programmes (3-6, 7-10, 11 and above). They are competing for the Audience Award (purchase of the copyright by the Benshi Studio SVOD platform).
2019 theme: Fantasy films
This selection offers a (re)discovery of great cinema classics, rare and unreleased works and contemporary fantasy and sci-fi films. Time travelling, discovery of parallel worlds, extraordinary events and magic will be on the programme!
Since 2018, the festival offers preview showings of highly anticipated films.
Focus on a young director
For the first time in 2019, Ciné Junior puts the spotlight on a young director with the showing of his films and a meeting with secondary-school pupils.
Cinema screening with live music
Every year, Ciné Junior and the Forum des Images co-produce a cinema screening with live music and offers special live screenings depending on the year’s programme: dancing, tales, exhibitions…
Professional days: 21st and 22nd of February 2019
During these two days, all short and feature films competing are screened in front of the different juries, including debates and meetings between professionals and young audiences.
But also: over 40 practical and fun workshops, many meetings with the film staff and cinema professionals, festive activities and screenings!
